Head to Any of These “Mekdi” for a Truly Malaysian Experience!

Last year when McDonald’s Malaysia displayed their iconic Mekdi at their very first restaurant in Bukit Bintang, I absolutely loved the idea! It’s just so Malaysian and it brought so many people together in appreciation for this very Malaysian nickname that we (Malaysians) gave to our much loved restaurant McDonald’s.

But I hardly go to town, so I didn’t get to take a photo with the signage then. So when I heard that they were extending this initiative to more of their restaurants all around Malaysia in conjunction with celebrating 38 years since opening it’s first ever McDonald’s Restaurant in Malaysia- I was absolutely thrilled!

With the unwavering support by the rakyat, Malaysians nationwide were given the power to vote at https://www.mcdonalds.com.my/Mekdi for which McDonald’s restaurant should display the iconic Mekdi signage, and these were the chosen restaurants:

  • McDonald’s Bukit Bintang
  • McDonald’s Titiwangsa
  • McDonald’s KLCC
  • McDonald’s Putrajaya, Presint 2
  • McDonald’s Kuala Selangor
  • McDonald’s Greenlane, Penang
  • McDonald’s Jln Gopeng, Ipoh, Perak
  • McDonald’s Stulang Laut, Johor
  • McDonald’s Kulai, Johor
  • McDonald’s Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan
  • McDonald’s Taman Buaya, Malacca
  • McDonald’s Teluk Cempedak, Pahang
  • McDonald’s Kota Bahru, Kelantan
  • McDonald’s Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu
  • McDonald’s Kuching 1, Sarawak
  • McDonald’s Api-Api, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

So I went to the closest Mekdi to me, which is in Putrajaya and YESSS! I finally have a shot with this iconic signage! I’m so happy! Unfortunately my baby boys were asleep when I took this shot.. But am sure gonna bring them back and take another shot with the whole family!

Also, there’s a new twist to their beloved Nasi Lemak McD.. Now we get to choose to have it with either Rendang Ayam, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe Cutlet or Grilled Chicken Burger (GCB) Cutlet.. Woot woot! Not to forget some scrumptious Malaysian inspired desserts – the all-new Cendol McFlurry  and a comeback on the Corn Pie and Cendol-flavoured ice cream.. Super YUMMSS!

Don’t you just love how McDonald’s Malaysia is being localised and that they are embracing the essence of being Malaysian?

From its food, to its people, as well as the causes that the company champions such as:

  • Raising the standards of human capital development in Malaysia by nurturing young talents and helping them build meaningful careers..
  • Various initiative organised to give back to the local communities it operates within. E.g. Anugerah Guru Inspirasi, Flood Relief Efforts, Food Sponsorship for frontlines during the Movement Control Order (MCO), Programmes under Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC Malaysia), and ‘Back-to-School’ programme.

Business wise pun they are very localised, for example:

  • They always come up with amazing localised flavours and menus,
  • Their ingredients are also locally sourced,
  • Their workforce pun, 95% Malaysian,
  • And their franchisees are all 100% Malaysian!

So, sapa tak pergi lagi to Mekdi and take photo with the signage.. take the opportunity now before it’s too late! Share the our proud Malaysianess and try out their awesome Nasi Lemak McD too! Don’t forget to hashtag  #Mekdi #McDonaldsMalaysia #NasiLemakMcD if you’re posting on your social media!

LinDees Review: New Playland, cafe and co-working space in Hartamas

Check out this review of LinDees, a new intergrated playland, cafe and co-working pace in Hartamas Shopping Mall, which has a lovely Malaysian twist to it!

I’ve been to a few playlands having a 3-year-old at home – most of them have the usual slides, toys, playhouses- but none of them are as unique and Malaysian as LinDees. Nestled on the second floor of Hartamas Shopping Centre, Lindees is a place where both work and play can intersect. Being a working mum myself, walking into LinDees was like looking at the answer to my prayers- a smart integration of play, work and eat all together in this beautifully designed space (it’s so Instagram worthy I promise you!).

There are three key areas in LinDees, which include their Playland, Kerjasama Deck and Nom Nomland.

Playland

LinDees’s Playland is divided into a few sections that cater to infants all the way up to children 12 years of age. When you first enter the playland, you’ll find Manja Nest- an area for the 0-2-year-olds. The area is closed off from other parts of the playland and padded so babies can freely (and safely) crawl, roll, jump and explore as freely as they wish. What really caught my eye were the switches, locks and other common household items that kids love to play with- all placed at their eye level. With playmats, puzzles, musical instruments, books and even a steering wheel overlooking a picturesque view of Kuala Lumpur, the Manja Nest is definitely a baby-friendly play area that’ll stimulate their senses and motor skills.

As you walk through the rest of the playground, you’ll notice some Hollywood inspired stars that feature successful and notable Malaysians, which I think is a beautiful touch and not to mention educational too. The Playground also has a wide wall with beautiful Malaysian fabric designs and graphic where kids get to touch, feel and do some colouring.

Colouring isn’t the only activity to stimulate your child’s creativity, in LinDees, they have a dedicated arts and crafts area called Seni Station where kids get to create, build, paint and craft all sorts of things. There are also costumes and musical instruments in LinDees’s Ceria house to encourage imagination.

football, basketball sport for kids

To get them moving with physical activities, LinDees has the Sukan Arena, where kids can play football, sepak takraw and basketball among other things. There’s also a wall for wall climbing and a beautifully curated playground area called Tanah Discovery. Kids can also do a little bit of gardening in Laman Green, to cultivate a love for nature, So there’s lots to do here!

Towards the end of playland you’ll find Harmoni Hall- a closed-off area with a library of books and a stage, which makes a great place for kids to do a little role-playing, read some books, and works great as a place to have birthday parties or small events.

playground cafe in klang valley

A few other things that is worth mentioning is their washroom, which is equipped with children sized toilets, diaper changing tables and a shower area in both female and male washrooms. They also have a cozy breastfeeding room for nursing mummies, so no worries there.

Kerjasama Deck

This co-working space is located on an upper deck (sort of like a treehouse) located in between the playland and eatery. It isn’t that big, but fits 2 private meeting rooms, some private pods and hot desks to accommodate any working style. The best part about the Kerjamasama Deck as a parent myself, is the fact that it overlooks the Playland so you can keep an eye on your little one while you’re working. It may seem that you’re high above and far from your child, but rest assured that there are staffs around the playland to keep an eye on your children- plus they are also CPR certified.

Nom Nom Land

Savour the best of local and Western Delight at Nom Nom Land with dishes such as nasi lemak, spaghetti Bolognaise, sandwiches and many more. They even have a Kid’s menu to cater to juniors and are reasonably priced. I didn’t get a chance to try any of their food, but I do like the fact that they have junior tables and chairs in the cafe, where kids can have their very own space to eat and drink.

Founded by Ms Nurlin Salleh and Ms Mien Dee Yong, who are working mothers themselves, they understood the need to have a place where they can balance both parenthood and career at the same time. “Our goal is to create an environment that encourages a healthy work-life balance in all families. We want to empower mothers to come back to work after giving birth while reminding our kids of what Malaysia a unique country.”

As Malaysia’s first integrated indoor playland and co-working space, LinDees has definitely caught my eye, not just as a place for kids to play and for parents to work, but as a place that pays homage to Malaysia’s diverse culture.

So how much does it cost?

Depending on what you’re there for, be it to work, play, eat or all of it, prices will differ accordingly. LinDees prices are divided into bundle price, playground price and Kerjasama price, so you can conveniently pay according to what you need.

Hate Standing in Line? Queue Virtually with this App & Save Time!

I’m one of those people where I hate crowded places and I hate queuing for long periods of time, especially when you’re hungry and just need to fill up your tummy! So recently, I came across an app that could do the queuing for me! It’s called QueQ, and is a Thai- based community mobile app that helps us to eliminate the hassle of queuing up at my favourite dining outlets.

As you guys might know already, K FRY is one of those restaurants that can get really ridiculously long queues, which is why I haven’t tried it till the day I found out about QueQ. Anyway, the process was pretty easy: Continue reading

What’s On The Menu in McD This Ramadhan? + Discount Promos You Don’t Want To Miss!

Ramadhan is just a few days away and McDonald’s has brought back some of our favourites with a whole new twist!

Leading this tasty comeback is Nasi McD, which now has the option to add-on an all new curry sauce for just RM1.50. The set comes with a side of coleslaw and Ice Lemon Tea, making it an awesome dish for buka puasa.

Another favourite is the Chicken Foldover – with two pieces of perfectly grilled, juicy chicken patties, topped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and an all new special sauce, all wrapped in a warm toasted flatbread. I must say that this new sauce is waaayyyy better and i absolutely love it!

Best Diet for Pregnant Women with Gestational Diabetes

So I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes (GDM), which occurs in about 7% of pregnant women. It’s pretty common, but can be worrying too if not taken care off.

The reason for this entry is basically because I’m hopeless at going to my appointments, and as I’m writing this, I’m missing my 3pm appointment with a dietician in Putrajaya Hospital (don’t be like me guysss), so I decided to do my own research. I mean how hard is it to look up the proper diet for women with GDM right?

So here’s what I found.

It’s all about keeping your blood sugar level in the ‘normal’ range.

So far, it looks like my readings are mostly in the prediabetic stage (with minor diet control). I still had my Teh O Ice Limau, still had my rice, but I tried cutting down on my ice creams, cakes and chocolates.

Fresh New Look for Sarawak’s 1st McDonald’s

ronald mcdonald restaurant

4 years after i was born, the first McDonald’s landed in Kuching, Sarawak. And on its 25th Anniversary, which is this year, it finally gets a fresh new look! Like finally!

If you guys didn’t know already (because i didn’t), McDonalds Padungan was the first McDonald’s restaurant to open in the whole of Sarawak and it is finally remodelled as part of the organisation’s innovative plans to modernise experience for customers.

The transformation of the Padungan restaurant incorporates various new features and innovative customer service concepts, which include: –

  1. Table service, where customers can order their meals at the front counter or via one of the ordering screens and choose the option for their food to be served at their chosen table.
  2. Self-ordering kiosks (SOKs), where customers can place their own orders and customise their meals according to their preference.
  3. Dual point service that enables customers to order through the SOKs or the front counter, before picking up their food when their order numbers are flashed on screen.
  4. Cashless transaction convenience so that customers can easily pay for their meals using credit or debit cards.
  5. Digital menu boards to showcase the menu and on-going promotions, improve customer experience when ordering over the counter.
  6. High speed WiFi connectivity for the benefit of always-connected customers

NESPRESSO LONG BLACK FRIDAY- Coffee Lovers, You Wouldn’t Want To Miss This Amazing Sale!

couple husband and wife drinking coffee

SALES, SALES, SALES! This November seems to be all about crazy offers, but it’s not over just yet because Black Friday and Cyber Monday are just around the corner! But this year is not going to be like any average Black Friday. Nespresso Malaysia is taking it a step further by bringing you LONG BLACK FRIDAY!

What’s that supposed to mean, you ask?

Well, instead of the standard Black Friday sale which starts on 23rd November this year, Nespresso is starting their amazing sale two days earlier, hence the “Long” in their Long Black Friday sale—which is pretty smart I think!

With this opportunity, you get to purchase your Nespresso machine or coffee before anyone else! This gives you the chance to stay up late with some Nespresso coffee to keep you up and awake to do all your late-night Black Friday shopping!

So starting the 21st of November up to 26th November, be sure to head on to Nespresso Malaysia’s website to get your hands on some awesome deals!

My Pixie Experience

I’m so fortunate to be able to review Nespresso’s Pixie machine. Besides coming in red, which is one of my favourite colours, Pixie is also small and fits nicely in my little kitchen. Despite its compact size, what I also love about it is the fact that it can hold up to 0.7 liters of water—which means I don’t have to top up water every single day.

Pixie is also one of Nespresso’s SMART model. It has a smart alert system that will notify you when the tank is almost empty, which is great because I tend to overlook these things when I’m rushing in the morning.

During the Long Black Friday sale, you’ll also be able to find a Pixie bundle set which comes with an Aeroccino Milk Frother that will only cost RM 699  with the purchase of 100 capsules- instead of its original price of RM1149.😱

milk froth homemade capuccino

To me, you must must must take up the Aeroccino Milk Frother if you love your coffees with milk. I am so in love with the Aeroccino—the fact that it can froth up your milk to make the perfect cappuccino or lattes makes me literally obsessed with making my own cup every morning, not just for myself but for my whole family! It’s just so fun to make, and it looks beautiful too!

So my advice is, if you’re a coffee lover and have been thinking about getting a machine for yourself, take advantage of Nespresso’s Long Black Friday sale and you won’t regret it!

Nespresso Master Origin: Mastered by the Craftsmen, Inspired By the Land

Have you ever thought about what makes a great cup of coffee? Is it the type of beans? The country it’s from? Or is it how your barista would make it? Like most of us, i know a good cup of coffee when i get one, but i just can’t seem to point out what makes it great- until recently.

pavilion kl

Last week, Nespresso introduced its Master Origin range. It’s an improvement of their Pure Origin range- a collection of selective, premium and high quality coffee. But what could be better than carefully selected, premium, high quality coffee right? Well, let me tell you- it’s the unique harvesting and coffee processing practices that each country has.

The Master Origin range comes from five different origins, each with its own unique processing method: Ethiopia, Indonesia, India, Colombia & Nicaragua.

Here is what makes each of these coffee special in their own way:
