How to take advantage of ramadan to lose some weight

Ramadan is here! Which means Raya is just a month away! As we take this time to reflect on ourselves and do righteous deeds, it’s also a great time to lose some weight. Take it as killing two birds with one stone! I’ve known some people who tend to put on weight during Ramadhan instead, but god willing if done the right way, losing weight is definitely an option to be grabbed!

So if you’re looking to fully utilise this holy month, then check out these awesome tips that will almost definitely guarantee that you’ll lose weight.

Do not skip suhoor

Suhoor is your pre-dawn breakfast, so skipping it is just like skipping your breakfast, which means that it’ll just leave you even more hungrier when you break fast! Which means….. that you’re most likely to eat more and stuff your face with whatever you can much on!

Break your fast with a balanced and healthy meal

A great habit to keep throughout the month is to break your fast with healthy food. Put fast food out of the picture, forget about all those Ramadan buffets that’ll just temp you to eat more than you should, food at the Ramadan bazzars… I say choose wisely! Avoid fried dishes, make sure it’s balanced with carbs and protein, and most importantly control your portion!

Drink only water- No Sugary drinks!

This is something that my grandmother does every year. Since she can’t fast due to medication, she has opt to cut out her favourite cup of coffee and tea and other sugary drinks, instead drink only plain water for the whole month. Sugary drinks is one of the major cause of putting on weight and diabetes, so if you’re serious about losing weight, this one important tip you should really consider. It’s not going to be easy, because god known i tried. Imagine all those sirap pandan and soya cincau, milo ice, coke on ice… *drool* Sorry! Gotta say bye bye!

Try to get a workout in before breaking fast

I’ve once interviewed a personal trainer that told me to try to get in a short amount of working out right before iftar. It can be a light cardio or some yoga, any low intensity workout depending on your capability. Working out even for 2o mins will help burn some extra calories and is sure to not only help you lose weight, but also helps you be more focused and healthier overall.

So for those who really want to lose some weight before Eid arrives, and to surprise that aunt or cousin or uncle or friend that gives you those nasty comments every single year.. then try out these tips and let me know how it’s help you! Or if you have any other tips to share.. leave a comment in the section below and i’m sure to go through them!
