If you’ve read my previous post on some of the problems with plus size clothing in Malaysia, then you’ll know that the choices we have are just S.A.D (Such A Drag!). I got a lot of feedback from there saying that there are a lot of plus size clothing available online nowadays, which i guess is true- (you can check out some of the plus size stores i put together here) but shopping online for a plus size babe can be a tad bit terrifying! To be truthful, i hardly shop for clothes online(especially local stores) and if i do, i’ll try to find out if they have a physical store so i can drop by to try their clothes on. Why you ask? Well here are some reasons behind it:
ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL
Familiar with the term “free-size”, yup, not that free afterall. Free size clothing do fit a number of shapes and sizes, but do be careful and check the measurements first before purchasing because some “free-sizes” can be smaller than you think!!
MEASUREMENTS ARE NOT ACCURATE
46 inches?! This isn’t 46 inches!!!! Been in that situation? Now that you found out its smaller than you expect, what do you do? Sell it of as pre-loved for a cheaper price? Sigh… what a waste of money. Well, most merchants warn women to expect a 1-3cm difference when they receive their purchases, so just be extra careful when you make your purchase.
TYPE OF MATERIAL IS NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT
I’m sure many of you have seen the hilarious online purchase disasters where the items advertised is not exactly what you would expect in real life.. Not so hilarious when it happens to you right! Be sure to shop at trusted sites to avoid this and do be smart and think logic especially when the price seems too good to be true.
NOT SURE IF THE STYLE/ SILHOUETTE WORKS FOR YOUR BODY
Let’s be honest, not all styles are flattering on every body. Knowing what looks good on you is a definite plus when shopping online. But don’t be afraid to try new styles either! If you see a new style online that you think would look good on you, then i would suggest to find something similar in a physical store and try it on first!(or you might as well buy the one you tried on.. Haha.. unless there are reasons otherwise :P)
With a number of apps and editing softwares, colours and hues you see online may be very different from what you see online. Of course in photos it’s all perfect and pretty, but once received it’s a whole different story.
These are just some of the reasons why plus size women are terrified of shopping online.
SO, DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?
-Let me know what you think…
-What’s your reason?
